History of the Miss Teen Texas Pageant

The Miss Teen Texas Program is sponsored by the State Association of Miss Texas Local Franchise Association (MTLFA).  This Association is comprised of franchise holders whose local pageant representatives compete at the Miss Texas Scholarship Pageant, an official state preliminary pageant of the Miss America Program.  The first Miss Teen Texas, Brooke Bigelow, was crowned in 1990 at the Miss Teen Texas Pageant in Fort Worth, Texas.

The program was originally organized to give younger teens an avenue to develop their public speaking skills and a forum to present their talents and viewpoints.  The program also provides these young women with the opportunity to be better prepared as they move into the “Miss” competition age group.

The Miss Teen Texas State Finals competition is open only to contestants sponsored by and winning titles through “youth competitions” conducted by official Miss Texas Local Franchise Holders, unless otherwise approved by the Board of Directors of the State Association of MTLFA.

Contestants competing in Miss Teen Texas Pageants at the local level are charged a $100.00 entry fee.  If the contestant wins the local Miss Teen Texas Pageant, then the local pageant is responsible for paying the local titleholder’s entry fee to the Miss Teen Texas State Finals.

A minimum $100.00 cash scholarship or a $200.00 savings bond must be awarded to the winner of the local competition.

At the 1999 Miss Teen Texas Pageant, nearly $8,000 in scholarships and prizes were awarded to contestants.
